Sylvia Poggioli: NPR Clergy Sex Abuse Report

Ms. Poggioli states that conservatives will be disappointed that the report on clergy sex abuse report would deny that homosexuality compels priests to abuse boys and that liberals will be disappointed that the same report claims that celibacy does not cause such abuses. This seems a misrepresentation of both conservatives and liberals within the Catholic laity. While there might be some who claim that homosexuality or celibacy turn priests into pedophiles, the vast majority, of all political persuasions, correctly understand that pedophilia is borne out of causes completely apart from one's sexual orientation or sexual activity. I wish that Ms. Poggioli's report were more careful to not represent these marginalized views as mainstream ones.
